Two new projects for Rockland Housing Foundation

Designs are underway for 40 units of new senior housing and a senior center to be located on two adjacent parcels surrounded by wetlands and centrally located within a half mile of Rockland’s commercial center. It’s a perfect location for seniors to remain active and in close proximity to many of the services they require, while also providing views/access to a site of uncommon natural beauty.

The senior housing will be in a three-story apartment building with common areas and a management office at the ground floor. Dwelling units are located on all three floors. Out of the total of 40 units, 10% will be fully handicapped accessible, meeting Group 1 requirements. The remaining units will be universally designed to meet Group 2a requirements.

The senior center, located just a short walk through the serene landscape, will serve both residents of the senior housing as well as day visitors from Rockland. In addition to a multitude of senior activities offered at the center, a unique program will teach culinary skills to young people while providing healthy quality meals for senior center visitors.

In conjunction, these two projects will provide a universal, barrier-free building and site, supporting residents aging in place, and ensuring that residents can visit each other and be visited by guests regardless of physical limitations.
